"Women Participation on Social Media"

After being inspired & trained on how to utilize Social Media for Advocacy and Campaigns it's good to see young women taking the lead on social media platforms discussing issues pertaining their development ‪#‎SRHR‬ ‪#‎UnpaidCareWork‬ , ‪#‎DecentWork‬, ‪#‎ViolenceAgainstWomen‬ Let's give them the chance to say out their concerns, To have their views ‪#‎WomenCanDoIt‬!!
Social Media can be used to expand opportunities for women they can take advantage of these social forums to get things done.
The twitter hashtag function in particular allows women to easily follow issues that matter to them and forge coalitions based upon shared concerns, from immediate personal needs to calls for large scale social change.
Women who were formerly isolated can now access high profile players in their field of interest and conversely, build accessible visible platform for self promotion, they can self publish through these platforms.
It is not only about being seen but it is about influencing, being heard , It is not about followers or what you post it is better to have a small audience that is highly engaged with you. Across the pond, research by the Pew internet and American Life Project suggests that women are more likely to use social networks than men.
Another Pew Study last two months revealed that women are significantly more likely to use facebook, pinterest and instagram, which clearly indicates that they can be there but with no skills or ideas to influence and highly engage the audience. It might be a simple reflection of our offline world, where women are still under represented in public life and traditional spheres of influence. Technology itself has its own gender divide to address.
women can build networks of support that counteract the negative systems and structures of the past that undermines their development . We can Support Women and make their voices heard  -

Theatre should cause an emotional stir with the audience members

Young Urban Women's Project drama group

Participatory Drama on International Youth Day
Theatre/Drama should cause an emotional stir with the audience members, it should change their way of thinking of the way they see the world and inspire the audience to want to do more. This is one of the powerful tool that can be used to advance advocacy work on women's issues . Drama has the potential to change someone's views on an issue thus it is called theatre for development or edutainment  by many development practitioners . Perhaps it is because seeing real life events on stage is refreshing and has that personal connecting with you as an audience member.
It was a breath taking to watch Young Urban Women Acting the way they displayed the moves during the dance drama proved that women can do it better. The information that was disseminated on  breast cancer was coming from an informed group and the storyline on Breast cancer was quite powerful to an extend that you could go on an emotional rollercoaster with the characters who lacked information and knowledge on breast cancer .
They managed to share information regarding to symptoms of breast cancer which may include a lump in the breast, a change in size or shape of the breast or discharge from nipple. Through the drama play it was also a learning platform for men that they can also have breast cancer therefore it is not only women's responsibility to fight against breast cancer but a responsibility for both men and women . Edutainment is one of the tool that Young Urban Women's Project has adopted and using during its programs , it makes the learning process more enjoyable and engaging which is key to effective learning . Edutainment  is a combination of Entertainment and education this tool is used to attract and maintain audience while incorporating educational content and relevant message. When education is presented in a dry way it can cause people to tune out and not get the information or absorb the material. For Young Urban Women's Project drama is one form of tool that contributes immensely on awareness and campaign activities .
